Plymouth Cheese Wins Two Awards At The American Cheese Society Competition

Providence, Rhode Island – It was announced on Friday that Plymouth Cheese won two awards in the category of ‘Cheeses with Flavor Added – All Milks and Mixed Milks’ at the ACS competition that took place this past weekend in Providence, RI.

Sage & Herbs won the bronze, and Hot Pepper won the silver in Flavored category.

Historically, the Plymouth Cheese Factory produced many flavored cheeses, including sage and spicy varieties. Jesse Werner, cheesemaker and owner, continues to create the original recipe Plymouth Cheese, in addition to all of its storied flavors, two of which just won major awards. Jesse has also created a line of cave aged natural rind cheeses that have won many awards over the last few years.

The Plymouth Cheese Factory is located on the Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site in charming Plymouth Notch, Vermont, which is in the central part of the state. We are 15 minutes from the village of Woodstock and 20 minutes from both the Killington and Okemo ski resorts. The cheese factory is open 7 days a week, 10 – 5 pm through October. About Plymouth Cheese

The Plymouth Cheese Factory is the second oldest cheese factory in the United States – producing high quality and distinctive artisan cheeses for over 125 years.

The factory still occupies the same site and building as it did when it was built in 1890 in Plymouth, Vermont by Col. John Coolidge, father of Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States. John Coolidge, a dairy farmer, created Plymouth Cheese as a means of turning extra milk into a product with a longer shelf life, using the same exacting granular curd recipe that the first European settlers brought with them to the New World.

Today, Jesse Werner still uses that same recipe, and it is the closest thing consumers can find to the cheeses America’s first farmers produced in the 1600s. Plymouth Cheese uses only raw whole cow’s milk from a single dedicated herd.

Plymouth’s Hand Waxed series consists of colorful blocks of cheese in a variety of flavors. Our cheeses are crafted, cut and waxed by hand – the way they did it over 125 years ago on the Vermont homestead.

Plymouth Cheese is a true American original.
