Plochman’s Bourbon Mustard Named 2018 Grand Champion

The National Mustard Museum in Middleton, Wis., has announced they awarded the 2018 Grand Champion Mustard of its World-Wide Mustard Competition to Plochman’s Bourbon Mustard.

Fifty-one medals were presented at this year’s competition in 16 categories. Plochman’s Bourbon Mustard also won a gold medal in the competition’s spirit category.

“We are thrilled and honored that our Bourbon Mustard has received this prestigious honor from the National Mustard Museum,” said Rodney Naylor, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Plochman’s.  “This award-winning spicy brown mustard is rich with the flavor of bourbon and is a great addition to any sandwich, dip, barbeque sauce or recipe.”

Plochman’s Bourbon Mustard combines the flavors of bourbon and molasses to give its traditional spicy brown mustard a distinctive, sweet flavor with bourbon undertones. It was introduced to the retail marketplace in 2016 with two other varieties—Balsamic Stone Ground Mustard and Cuban Mustard.

This year marked the 25th year for the annual World-Wide Mustard Competition. Since its inception in 1995, the competition has garnered entries from all over the world.  Judging took place in April during a blind taste test. The judging panel included chefs, food writers, other food professionals and mustard aficionados. Product categories included honey, Dijon, spirit, hot pepper and exotic mustards, as well as mustard-based dressings and barbeque sauces.

Plochman’s also won medals in two other award categories. In the deli/brown mustard category, Plochman’s Kosciusko Spicy Brown Mustard won a silver medal. Plochman’s Mild Yellow won a bronze medal in the American yellow mustard category.
