Old Amsterdam Beats Rivals For 'Best Dutch Cheese' At The International Cheese Awards

Bohemia, NY – Old Amsterdam has beaten some stiff competition by defeating their rivals and winning the coveted ‘Best Dutch Cheese’ award at this year’s International Cheese Awards in Nantwich, UK. Old Amsterdam has also received a ‘Very Highly Commended’ in the Cheese Lovers Trophy sponsored by Cathedral City.

Old Amsterdam beat out twenty other cheese manufacturers in its class, including Beemster, Vincent, Rembrandt, Reypenaer, and Prima Donna, and received the Gold Award at Nantwich. The competition has become one of the biggest cheese competitions in the world and a key event in cheese manufacturers’ annual diaries.

In its 115th year, the International Cheese Awards welcomed nearly 4,000 entries in 226 categories, and with competitors from 27 countries around the world, Old Amsterdam Cheese stood above the competition. The 156 judges had their work cut out for them when it came to deciding which cheeses stood out from the rest as Old Amsterdam swept the ‘Best Dutch Cheese’ award for 2012.

“We’re thrilled to win gold at Nantwich and to be recognized by the industry as being the best Dutch cheese,” said Sander Westland, USA Sales Manager. “With over twenty cheeses in our class, the competition was closely fought, but the judges chose Old Amsterdam as their favorite. I’m very proud that our cheese has won yet another gold medal.”

The award follows hot on the heels of Old Amsterdam’s ‘Best Specialty Cheese’ award at this year’s Yorkshire Show.

Old Amsterdam has seen a boost in demand by US consumers and is readily available in US supermarkets and specialty cheese stores.
