Michigan Cheesemaker's Spicy Beer Spread Wins Bronze Medal At National Championship

LINWOOD, MI — A Bay County cheesemaker came home with some hardware from a record-breaking national championship last week.

Williams Cheese Co. won a bronze medal in the flavored pasteurized process cheese category at the 2015 United States Championship Cheese Contest, held in Madison, Wisconsin, April 22-23. The 70-year-old family business' "Spicy Cheddar Beer Spread" took third place honors behind a naturally smoked cheddar from Biery Cheese Co. in Louisville, Ohio, and a white extra melt with jalapeños from dairy giant Land O'Lakes.

"It's a great feeling to have customers come into the store and offer them award-winning cheese," said Mike Williams, a third-generation owner of Williams Cheese, 998 N. Huron Road in Linwood.
