Marin French Cheese Honored At American Cheese Society Competition

Petaluma, CA – With its history of handcrafting traditional and unique American soft-ripened cheeses, Marin French Cheese received a second-place award in the coveted American Originals category for its Petite Breakfast cheese, as well as both second and third-place honors for its Triple Crème Brie, at the American Cheese Society’s 35th annual competition on July 27, 2018, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,

Marin French Cheese’s Petite Breakfast, a fresh brie-style cheese that dates to the company’s origins in 1865, was honored for its award in the American Originals designation as thiscategory defines cheeses recognized by ACS as being uniquely American in their original forms, with a recipe that originated in the Americas. Made with fresh cow’s milk and cream from neighboring dairies within 20 miles of the creamery, Petite Breakfast has become a perennial favorite thanks to its mild, yet tangy taste and its creamy texture. The ultimate everyday cheese, Petite Breakfast can be crumbled atop a salad or melted and folded into an omelet.

Marin French Cheese’s best-selling cheese, Triple Crème Brie, took home a second-place award with its 8-ounce wheel in the ever-popular category of soft-ripened cheese, while the brand garnered third-place for the same cheese in its larger, 1-pound format.

“We are both honored and humbled that our iconic, fresh Petite Breakfast cheese as well as our Triple Crème brie cheeses continue to meet the judges’ expectations for superior products,” began Eric Barthome, CEO of Marin French Cheese, Laura Chenel’s, and Saint Benoît Creamery. “These awards are testimony to our commitment to produce only the highest quality, handcrafted brie-style cheese,” continued Barthome. “The efforts of the entire Marin French team have allowed us to become the standard for American brie.”

Sister companies Laura Chenel’s and Saint Benoît Creamery were also award recipients at the 2018 American Cheese Society competition. Laura Chenel’s enjoyed a second-place award for its Cabecou with Herbs in the category of Marinated Cheeses. With a dense texture, goat cheese disks are hand-packed in olive oil with savory herbs, infusing the flavors into the creamy yet tart rounds of chèvre. Saint Benoît Creamery’s Original Organic Yogurt took a third-place prize in the category of Cultured Milk and Cream Products, appreciated for its exceptional taste and texture thanks to the rich, creamy local milk coming only from Jersey cows.

P.S. What is the difference between a fresh brie and an aged brie?

The same cheesemaking process is used for fresh brie as for ripened bries, but they skip the cultures, and wrap the cheese after being made, rather than letting it age. The Petite Breakfast does not develop a rind and is sold young and fresh. It has a tangy flavor and unique texture, making it the ultimate every day cheese. It's very versatile, making it great for hot or cold usages. Melt on your favorite sandwiches or pastries, or add to salads for extra flavor and texture!
