LISLE, Ill. – Healthy Ones, the makers of lean, lower sodium and heart healthy deli meats and retail partner Jewel-Osco announced today an open-to-all pedaling event for a cause, "Pedal The Plaza." The fun, high-energy experience will be held outside at Pioneer Court Plaza in downtown Chicago on June 26 and will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). The event is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. CST. It is a part of the Healthy Ones "You Can" campaign that focuses on empowering consumers to make positive changes in their lifestyle and diet.
Healthy Ones, part of the John Morrell Food Group, a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, and Jewel-Osco will make it simple, fun and easy for the general public to participate in a healthy activity during the lunch time period. Over two dozen stationary bikes will be placed in the Plaza making it easy for the public to hop on a bike and pedal for a great cause and a free lunch!
The outdoor event will feature celebrities, music and a high-energy instructor to keep everyone motivated to make a difference. Each participant who decides to make the simple choice to pedal will be rewarded with a free lunch along with other healthy food items from Healthy Ones and Jewel-Osco.
Besides making a difference for themselves, people will also benefit others by helping raise a goal of $10,000 for BCRF. BCRF is an independent 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to advance the world's most promising research to eradicate breast cancer in our lifetime.
"We're planning to make this event a fun and easy way for people to make a healthy change to their day while donating to a cause that so many can relate to at the same time," said Elizabeth Di John, Brand Manager for Healthy Ones. "We have a goal of raising $10,000 to BCRF and we invite anyone in the Chicagoland area to come and 'Pedal The Plaza' with us, enjoy a free lunch on us and Jewel-Osco and make a difference for themselves and others. We want to show that it can be easy to make a healthy change to your day and others, one pedal rotation at a time."
Jewel-Osco is also proud to partner with Healthy Ones for this healthy community initiative.
"Health and wellness is a topic near and dear to Jewel-Osco being a grocery retailer. This event is a great way to promote healthy eating, creating awareness that there are everyday items at your neighborhood Jewel-Osco that are both delicious and also health conscious, as well as advocating being active," said Jewel-Osco VP Marketing & Merchandising, Doug Cygan. "We are proud to partner with Healthy Ones to support awareness for BCRF and their efforts, as well as living a healthy lifestyle."
