Halloumi To Be Recognized As Cypriot Protected Designation Of Origin Product

Cyprus is close to receiving EU recognition of halloumi as a protected designation of origin product, with the promotion process at an advanced stage.

Halloumi is a mild, firm and salty white cheese that originates in Cyprus. It is made from sheep's or goat's milk and is primarily used in cooked dishes.

In a March 25 2015 statement Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment, Nikos Kougialis reiterated that Cyprus is in the process of translating a dossier on halloumi into all EU member state languages.
