Preparing meals at home is still important for today’s consumers. But, given their busy schedules and daily demands, they allow themselves to have some of the work done upfront for them. This new way of shopping has prompted retail foodservice operations’ various channels to compete for dollars by expanding fresh food offerings.1

Deli is the new dine-in

The line between retail and restaurants is quickly becoming blurred. In fact, delis are now attracting some of the more affluent customers who once favored restaurants. Deli is driving grocers, c-store operators and restaurants to compete for a share of the prepared food market. And because of the logical traffic flow, visual appeal, combo meals and quick-stop service, delis are capturing large shares of the convenience channel and leveling the playing field.1
