Portland, Maine – Finca Pascualete Mini Torta has been named a Silver Finalist for Outstanding New Product in the 2012 sofi™ Awards from the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, Inc.
A sofi Award is the top honor in the $75 billion specialty food industry. "sofi" stands for Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation.
The Finca Pascualete Mini Torta was one of 125 Silver Finalists selected by a national panel of specialty food experts. The judges evaluated 2,520 entries across 32 Awards categories from Outstanding Appetizer, Antipasto, Salsa and Dip to Outstanding Vinegar. Gold Winners will be announced by noted chef José Andrés at a red-carpet ceremony June 18, 2012, at the Summer Fancy Food Show in Washington, D.C.
"This finalist award honors the rich spirit of the historic land of Extremadura where our tortas come from. We dedicated it to every generation, past and present, that have worked with the animals and the soil," said Juan Figeruroa whose family owns the storied Finca Pascualete estate. "The skill and passion that goes into hand crafting this cheese is a tradition that we are deeply committed and dedicated to preserving."
The sofi Awards are open to members of the NASFT, a not-for-profit trade association established in 1952 for food artisans, importers and entrepreneurs with more than 2,900 members throughout the U.S. and abroad.
