ARCATA, Calif. — Cypress Grove took home six awards at the 2018 World Cheese Awards in Bergen, Norway—the most the renowned Northern California cheesemaker has won at this particular competition—including a Super Gold each for Midnight Moon and Fromage Blanc and Gold awards for Humboldt Fog Grande, Humboldt Fog Mini, and Lamb Chopper. Rounding out the Cypress Grove winner’s circle was Ms. Natural with a silver.
“We are always humbled to be recognized by our peers around the world,” says Mary Keehn, founder of Cypress Grove. “The awards are the result of attention to hundreds of details, from soothing music in our milking barn to a dedicated cheesemaking team to years of constant improvement—and so much more. We are especially excited to win a Super Gold for Fromage Blanc, which was the first cheese we produced back in 1983 (more than 35 years ago!) and is still a favorite.”
To have five of these awards at the gold level or beyond is nothing short of extraordinary—especially when taken into consideration that the cheese was shipped from Northern California to New Jersey to Norway. Cheese is a living, breathing, delicate food, and to have internationally award-winning cheese at the end of a lengthy shipping and logistics process is a true testament to Cypress Grove’s quality standards.
A truly global cheese event, the World Cheese Awards has been bringing together cheesemakers, retailers, buyers, consumers and food commentators worldwide for over three decades. A record-breaking 3,500 cheeses from every corner of the globe lined up in the judging hall at Bergen’s Grieghallen on Nov. 2, 2018 and were judged by an international panel of 230 experts from 29 nations.
