According to Wikipedia, there are 450 different artisan cheese makers in the United States. Also known as artisanal cheese, the term refers to cheese made by hand in small batches following the traditional cheese maker’s art of using as little mechanization as possible. The place where the cheese is made is called a creamery.
While the idea of a traditional creamery conjures up images of the rural countryside, one of those 450 artisan cheese makers lives right here in Dunwoody and operates out of her creamery in the heart of Sandy Springs.
Robin Schick, owner of CalyRoad Creamery, was raised in Brookhaven and still lives here. Schick and her sister started the business in 2009, using their first- and middle-name initials – Cathy Lynn for Caly and Robin Adair for Road – to form name CalyRoad.
