California's Imperial Valley Cheese To Cease Operation

Imperial Valley Cheese, the remaining producer of Swiss and Muenster cheeses in California will close its doors for good Tuesday, and production from its El Centro plant will be transferred to a facility in Ohio.

“We’ve been running at half-volume for a year and a half,” said Greg Rowley, executive vice president of Utah-based Gossner Foods, Imperial Valley Cheese’s parent company.

Gossner Foods partnered with KF Dairy in 1999 to form Imperial Valley Cheese. Some 100 percent of the milk the dairy produced was used for the production of Muenster and Swiss cheeses.
