Every year the inter-branch organisation Emmentaler Switzerland AOP awards prizes to the top 10 Emmentaler cheesemakers who obtain the highest scores out of each month’s taxation of their Emmentaler production. Gourmino is proud to announce that in 2016 two Gourmino cheese dairies are among the top 10 of approximately 130 cheese dairies. For Gourmino this result justifies its consequent quality strategy according to the motto “we may be small, but when it comes to cheese we’re mighty!”.
We congratulate the following Gourmino cheesemakers:
- Hansruedi Gasser (1st award) mountain cheese dairy Oberei-Süderen
- Markus Hengartner (5 th award) village cheese dairy Illighausen
In recent years both cheese dairies were already several times among the top 10 as last year where they occupied together the third place. Both cheesemakers demonstrate with this result their professional competences, their perseverance and their passion for Emmentaler produced in small traditional village dairies. After 2013, it is for Hansruedi Gasser even the second first award! Last year he earns with his employees the average note of 19.83 out of 20. During eight out of twelve months, he obtains the maximum score and half point was deduced only four times during the Emmentaler taxation for a slight variation on the cheese holes. The cheese paste and taste obtained always the maximum score.
We are happy and proud to work with both these cheesemakers. We enjoy with them this success which proves that a daily commitment for an outstanding quality is just worth it. We aged therefore cheeses from both dairies up to two years in our cellars and made from them real Emmentaler specialties.
It is for us always impressive to witness how both cheesemakers are with passion and conviction entirely behind Emmentaler from traditional village dairies. Just now in the difficult climate of the Emmentaler field we would need more players with such lifeblood and real engagement for our world-famous cheese.
About Gourmino – “selected from the cheesemakers” In the difficult economic climate of 2001, five master cheesemakers joined forces to promote their centuriesold craft. And so the cheesemakers’ company was born: Gourmino AG. The result is a collection of masterfully hand-crafted Swiss cheeses made in small village dairies.

For this, we use only the best-quality cheeses selected from our own dairies. Our dairies are family businesses that use fresh milk supplied daily by local farmers.
