BROOMFIELD, Colo. — WhiteWave Foods, maker of Silk® and Horizon®, today announced a number of green initiatives at this year’s Natural Products Expo West trade show taking place March 11-13, in Anaheim, Calif. Developed in partnership with New Hope Natural Media, the initiatives will focus on reducing waste, increasing recycling and offsetting the energy used at the event, which is the world’s largest natural and organic products trade show.
Each green initiative will be implemented under WhiteWave’s “Green Means Go” theme. Some of these initiatives include:
•Sponsoring “Green Means Go” welcome area. When attendees first enter the show, they will have the opportunity to learn about the show’s green initiatives through a “Green Means Go” welcome area in the lobby of the convention center. In this area, attendees will also have the chance to answer the question, “What does green mean to you?” on a small white board next to which they will be photographed. The photos will be incorporated into a slideshow that will be played on a large screen in the welcome area and at the WhiteWave booth – #2136.
•Promoting waste reduction. WhiteWave will encourage attendees to take only one trade show guide to help reduce the amount of paper used at the event. Additionally, the company will provide reusable water bottles for retailer attendees in lieu of disposable plastic bottles. WhiteWave will also sponsor water stations throughout the convention center for water bottle refills.
•Sponsoring recycling stations. WhiteWave will sponsor recycling stations throughout the venue in an effort to mitigate the amount of waste produced at the show.
•Offsetting energy use. All of the energy used at the show and at the two host hotels will be offset by WhiteWave through the purchase of carbon credits and renewable energy certificates from Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF). BEF is a nonprofit organization that supports the development of renewable energy and watershed restoration projects.
WhiteWave’s green initiatives at Natural Products Expo West are part of the company’s approach to environmental stewardship and corporate responsibility, called Responsible Livelihood. Responsible Livelihood is led by a dedicated team of WhiteWave employees focused on harnessing the power of the company’s brands, the energy and passion of its people and the scale of the business to create meaningful change.
“Helping to green Expo West is a natural extension of WhiteWave’s mission to be the Earth’s favorite food company,” said Blaine McPeak, president of WhiteWave Foods. “We are always looking for opportunities to show our commitment to sustainability, and we are proud to be able to take steps in this direction at the world’s largest natural and organic trade show.”
