Thousands Of Eggs Donated For Needy

SACRAMENTO — A California egg producer Wednesday donated more than 95,000 eggs to be given to poor people in the Sacramento area, a distributor spokesman said.

John Healey, president and chief executive officer of California Emergency Foodlink told United Press International NuCal Foods of Ripon, Calif., donated and delivered the eggs to its distribution center Wednesday morning.

"Twenty-five percent of the eggs donated to Northern California by NuCal were sent to Sacramento. Most of this donation will go to agencies in the greater Sacramento area with some going to outlying food banks in our area," Healey told UPI.

The eggs, if placed shell to shell would reach more than 3 miles, are prized for their nutritional value and are hard for foodshelves to come by, but NuCal said yes when contacted by Foodlink's national partner, Feeding America, in their ongoing outreach program based in Chicago, Healey said.
