The SAMFund Founder Nominated: Hood Simply Smart "Make A Difference, Taste A Difference" Award

Boston – Samantha Eisenstein Watson, a two-time young adult cancer survivor, is nominated in the Hood® Simply Smart® Milk “Make a Difference, Taste a Difference” Facebook contest. Running through the end of July, Watson is one of three New England nominees and could win a $5,000 donation to The SAMFund.

After her own experience, Watson recognized that there was a void in programs and services tailored specifically for young adult cancer survivors post-treatment.  Because of this, she created The SAMFund, the only national organization dedicated to helping young adults recover from the financial and practical impact of cancer treatment. Since 2005, The SAMFund has awarded more than $700,000 in grants to survivors across the country for such needs as living expenses, residual medical debt, health and wellness and family building expenses.

It’s the kind of impact that the Hood Simply Smart Milk and its spokesperson, tennis legend Chris Evert, is spotlighting with the “Make a Difference, Taste a Difference” program, celebrating women across the country like Watson who are making a difference in their communities.  A showcase of nominees on http://www.facebook.com/SimplySmartMilk lets America choose the winners according to the number of votes cast by July 31, 2012. The organizations receiving the most votes will receive the $5,000 donation to be presented by Chris Evert.

Honored to be one of three nominees from from New England, Watson noted that the timing was perfect to raise the awareness of the financial impact of cancer on young adults: “With our 2012 grants cycle currently underway, it is our goal to help as many young adult survivors as possible regain their independence and begin to move forward with their lives after treatment.  The impact of winning $5,000 from this contest would be tremendous.  This amount would make it possible for young adults to pay their rent for several months, pay off medical bills and keep themselves healthy and strong.”

“It’s a true honor to recognize each of these women as part of the Hood Simply Smart Milk’s ‘Make a Difference, Taste a Difference’ program,” said Chris Evert.  “These women have made a mark on their communities and show that hard work, caring and commitment truly can make an impact.”
