The Shenandoah Family Farms Cooperative is targeting Jan. 15 to begin milk production at the Hagerstown facility it purchased this summer, but hopes to start earlier than that, Cooperative President Randy Inman said Thursday.
Valley Pride, for which Inman is vice president, announced in late August that it had bought the former Good Humor-Breyers ice-cream plant on Frederick Street. At that time, the company expected to begin milk and ice-cream production this fall.
Inman said that the process of getting equipment installed and inspected, and going through licensing and regulatory procedures, has taken longer than expected, so Shenandoah Family Farms milk production is now expected to begin in January.
The plan is to have ice-cream production start up within 30 days of milk production, Inman said.
