City leaders on Tuesday paved the way for Modesto to become the home base for Don Francisco cheese and assorted dairy products.
The City Council unanimously approved a deal giving a $440,000 break on waste-water fees to Rizo Lopez Foods Inc., which plans to move operations from Riverbank to the Beard Industrial Tract.
Officials said the agreement made sense as a way to keep the expansion-minded company from leaving Stanislaus County.
"It's an ag-based business, and we are an ag-based community," Councilman Brad Hawn said. "They are moving from Riverbank to Modesto; we are keeping them in the region."
