Pittsburgh-Area Milk Returns To Giant Eagle Market District Stores

If you like the idea of drinking milk from local cows and and were saddened by the disappearance of newcomer Manchester Farms from Giant Eagle Market District shelves when the organic Avella dairy went out of business earlier this year, take heart.

Giant Eagle is stocking milk from two dairies not far from Pittsburgh. They are:

  • Pasture Maid Creamery in New Castle: The whole milk is from 150 cows that graze outside as much as weather permits. Owner Adam Dean grows winter feed for them on the farm. The creamline-style whole milk is not homogenized so that the cream rises and is visible at the top. The milk is pasteurized at low heat to preserve flavor.
