For 90 years, Oberweis Dairy has been selling milk in clear glass bottles. Customers say it hearkens nostalgically back to the days when white-clad delivery men would bring bottles of milk and other dairy products right to their home.
For Oberweis, which still has white-clad delivery men and women bringing their bottles to customers' homes, the clear glass bottles help to protect the flavor of their milk by keeping it cooler when it is out of the refrigerator.
But next month, that is changing. Beginning in March, the North Aurora, Ill.-based company is going to sell milk in glass bottles that are colored amber. The change, which is only taking place in the bottles that are sold in grocery stores, is a concession to science.
