New York Milk Production Rises Nearly 4% In January

New York dairy farms produced 1.18 billion pounds of milk in January, up 3.7 percent from the year-ago period, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New York field office.

Production per cow averaged 1,910 pounds in January, up 65 pounds from January 2014.

The number of milk cows on farms in the Empire State totaled 616,000 in the most-recent month, up 1,000 head from both the prior month and a year ago, the field office reported.
