Montreal's Saputo Inc., the world's 12th-biggest milk processor, is holding costs down in Canada, the U.S., Europe and Argentina, while keeping a keen eye on acquisition opportunities in key markets, CEO Lino Saputo Jr., said Tuesday.
U.S. business was good in the March quarter, with higher cheese prices and synergies starting to roll from the $270-million U.S. acquisition of Wisconsin specialty cheese marketer DCI.
Saputo Inc. wants to boost its retail market share in specialty cheeses.
"We've built a solid platform on which we can diversify, add value and achieve sustainable profits despite tough competition," Saputo told analysts.
