The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) today issued a consumer advisory for Co-jack, Cheddar, Jalapeno Cheddar, and Garlic Herb cheese and cheese curds produced by Turner Cheese Company located at1210 S. M-65, Whittemore, MI 48770.
The milk the cheese was made from was deemed unfit for human consumption because it was held at 63 degrees F for an extended time. This can allow a proliferation of bacteria and result in inadequate pasteurization.
The products under this advisory were produced on August 11, 2012 and sold in various weights in curd or finished product form. These products will be labeled with the company name, Turner Cheese Company, and may be marked with lot codes 80912-18 and 80911-18. Some packages may not bear a lot code or date.
The products were sold at the retail counter located at Turner Cheese Company, 1210 S. M-65, Whittemore, MI, but it is unknown whether products were also sold to other wholesalers, distributors or retailers in the area.
There have been no reports of illness associated with these products at this time. Consumers who have any product covered by this advisory should not consume it and should discard it immediately.
