Athens, Tenn. – Further establishing its legacy as one of the leading brands for milk and ice cream products in the southeast, Mayfield Dairy proudly announced that the company was awarded a Best of Show – Governor Trophy for four products during the 2013 Tennessee State Fair. These awards come after Cooking Light awarded Mayfield Dairy with one of its annual “The Tasties” award for having the best-tasting ice cream sandwich in the country.
“Winning these prestigious awards is a mark of pride for Mayfield Dairy and builds upon our legacy of making award winning dairy products that exceed customers' expectations in both taste and quality,” said Scottie Mayfield, president emeritus with Mayfield Dairy. “We take great pride in receiving these honors because they represent the hard work and continued dedication to excellence that our employees have each and every day."
The dairy products competition, which is hosted and sponsored by the Tennessee Dairy Products Association, has become an annual tradition at the Tennessee State Fair as part of the state’s ongoing effort to help promote the seventh largest commodity industry, which is valued at more than $151 million.
Each year, dairy producers throughout the state come together at the state fair and compete in one of nine categories where products are judged on criteria based on taste, body and texture. This year, Mayfield Dairy received a Best of Show – Governor Trophy for the following products:
- Reduced Fat Buttermilk
- TruMoo Whole Chocolate Milk
- Cottage Cheese
- Butter Pecan Premium Ice Cream
In addition to winning the four Governor’s Trophies, Mayfield Dairy was recently named the 2013 Grand Prize Winner for having the best tasting ice cream sandwich in the country as part of Cooking Light’s fourth annual Taste Test Awards, also known as “The Tasties.” These annual awards name the best-tasting and healthiest grocery store products from across the country in 20 categories, which are also featured in the October issue of Cooking Light.
To qualify, products had to be available in most major markets nationwide. Judges initially eliminated products that contained artificial trans fats, too much salt or too much saturated fat. Then, a tasting panel of Cooking Light editors and registered dieticians did a blind taste-test of 200 finalists to come up with the Grand Prize Winner in each category. “From frozen rice to canned soups, this year’s Taste Test Award winners are healthy, delicious and most importantly, convenient,” says Cooking Light editor Scott Mowbray. “We want to show consumers that even though life can be busy, there’s no reason to have to compromise taste.”
