ATLANTIC CITY – A new business has been born from the vision of three men who want to be productive in their retirement years and give back to the community – and do it with some darned good cheese spreads.
Bill Southrey's Gourmet Mission Cheese, named after the director of the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, is still in its infant stages. But the founders have dreams of satisfying southern New Jersey residents' taste buds while helping the residents of the mission.
"Hopefully, as the company grows, we will hire people from the mission to give them work," said Paul Robinson, of Brigantine.
Robinson, 62, Walt Bodkin, 67, of Somers Point, and Fred Austin, 72, of Egg Harbor Township, all former executives, got the idea when they found themselves out of work. Figuring no one would hire them at their age in a tough economy, they decided to start their own company, Bodkin said.
