Kraft Heinz will invest over $100 million in an expansion of its cheese processing New Ulm plant, with the state kicking in an additional $450,000 through a subsidy.
Kraft Heinz, based in suburban Chicago and Pittsburgh, originally announced the expansion this winter. On Friday, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development announced it is supporting the expansion with a $450,000 “forgivable” loan. The loan will be forgiven if the giant packaged food company meets its hiring and investment goals.
The expansion is expected to add 50 jobs at the plant, which already employs nearly 400 people. The plant, which has been open since 1955, is New Ulm’s third largest employer.
