Another week, another Hall of Famer. It's been a good run for Taster's Choice as we look at back-to-school, kid-friendly foods.
This time, it's packaged sliced Swiss cheese, with the hole-y slices from Naturally Good Kosher ($6.99 for 8 ounces at Andronico's) earning a place in our holy Hall, reserved for products that top the 80-point plateau.
With a "sharp, slightly nutty" flavor and "nice, large holes," this Swiss had all but one panelist swooning. "Undistinguished," the dissenter wrote, but the rest applauded Naturally Good Kosher's "mild" flavor. Four would buy and the fifth might.
Second place went to Lucerne ($3.49 for 8 ounces at Safeway). "A good Swiss, with a sharp nuttiness," "sweet dairy" notes and a "pleasant texture," our tasters commended. A few, however, were slightly put off that their slices had "no holes." Three would buy, one might and one would not.
