Starting today, Shatto Milk products, Kansas City's favorite dairy, will be available on local store shelves. There may be a shortage of some varieties while Shatto catches up with product demand, but all products are expected to be back on grocery store shelves very soon.
On Wednesday, August 8, a voluntary recall was made for a few Shatto Milk products. This recall resulted from a periodic test which showed residual phosphatase, which can mean the batch of milk that was tested, was not entirely pasteurized.
On August 9th, the Shatto's in combination with State Milk inspectors, inspected all equipment, which was found to be in good working order and all records were found to be in good shape. Not wanting to rely solely on their internal review, the Shatto's brought in the manufacturer of the pasteurizer to further evaluate the equipment. The technician made a few adjustments to the machine and indicated it was in good working order. Additional milk samples were provided to the State Milk Board Monday and those results came back with no sign of residual phosphatase or any other reason for concern.
This great news suggests the Shatto’s evaluation and action has resolved any potential problem that may have existed. All varieties of Shatto Milk are perfectly safe to consume and enjoy. Shatto Milk is being bottled today and should arrive on local store shelves later tonight and early tomorrow morning.
“As a small family owned farm, the past week has been very stressful, but the evaluation and testing resulted in a few adjustments to our machinery which subsequent testing has proven has solved the unique test results, said the Shatto Family, Dairy Farmers and Owners of Shatto Milk Company. “We are humbled by the support and kind words from our wonderful customers and retailers, not to mention the outstanding professionalism that was shown by the State Milk Board and their inspectors.” “We are committed to offering the area the freshest, best tasting and safest milk possible. With that, we encourage everyone to come visit us on the farm to see exactly where their milk comes from.”
The Shatto Family began delivering farm-fresh milk from their local family farm to select supermarkets in June 2003. The Shatto’s also opened a Country Store at their dairy and began offering tours of their local family farm and bottling facility.
