The Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy has been leading industry-wide sustainability efforts since 2008 to help meet the worldwide challenge to feed a growing population while conserving natural resources and protecting the environment.
I am proud of the industry’s accomplishments as we forge partnerships and initiate collaborations to find science-driven solutions on the farm and throughout the supply chain. As a scientist, I appreciate the value of building a sustainability program based on credible, relevant metrics that will build trust with customers and communities.
As a nutrition scientist, I recognize sustainable diets provide adequate nutrition to sustain the health of our growing population and are an integral part of the food supply’s sustainability. Agriculture, health, environment and the food industry are inextricably linked. But before science-based recommendations for sustainable diets can be made, we need more research that brings together agriculture, food systems, nutrition, public health, environment, economics, culture, and trade.
