happy egg co. Expands Flock, Farms & Retail Locations To Meet Increasing Demand

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — As part of its mission to make humanely raised eggs accessible to consumers nationwide, the happy egg co. today announced that its free range eggs have gained further expansion, adding another 400 retail stores across Meijer and Safeway stores in the Midwest and East.

Through its rapid growth in the consumer retail industry, in just two and a half years since entering the market, the happy egg co. is now available in over 4800 stores across the country and has added another seven new free range farms in the Midwest as it responds to increased consumer demand for true free range eggs.

The specialty egg industry has grown substantially over the past two years, and specifically, the purchasing of high welfare eggs including free range has grown by a massive 57 percent during the last 52 weeks (Source Nielsen – $ growth vs. year ago – 52 weeks ending April 18, 2015). The happy egg co. has invested heavily in production capacity to meet this increase in demand and ensure an uninterrupted supply to its retail customers, setting them apart from other specialty egg suppliers.

"The free range category is booming and we are excited to see how consumer purchasing habits have changed in such a short amount of time," said David Wagstaff, Chief Operating Officer at the happy egg co. "As major food giants are phasing into free range eggs, the happy egg co. is pleased to be at the forefront. By adding more hens to our flock and expanding into new regions with Safeway, Meijer and United Supermarkets, we will continue to provide our consumers with the highest quality eggs from hens cared for to the highest humane standards."

the happy egg co. now operates 13 bespoke farms built to very specific standards of hen welfare and egg processing. As the only free range egg brand to be certified by the American Humane Association, the happy egg co. hens roam freely, outdoors everyday on farms the size of six football fields, allowing each hen 21.8 sq ft of space each to exhibit their natural behaviors and live more contented lives.
