HANFORD — The central San Joaquin Valley is easily the state's leading producer of milk. But not all that milk is from cows.
Hanford couple Johnnie and Anneke de Jong have carved out a niche in the flourishing goat milk industry. Their family-run operation — Summerhill Goat Dairy — has swelled over the years from about 200 goats to 2,000.
And unlike other goat milk producers in the Valley, the de Jongs process and bottle their own milk — all at the 6th Avenue farm in Hanford.
Last year, they churned out more than a million quart-sized bottles of goat's milk.
