Aldi, the value-oriented grocery chain that arrived in the Dallas-Fort Worth market in March, will launch a promotion Friday selling a gallon of milk for less than a buck.
The move, which will likely draw in more first-timers to the chain, shows the increasing importance of bargain-priced milk as retailers try to woo recession weary consumers.
Starting Saturday and continuing for about a month, Aldi will sell all varieties of its Friendly Farms store-brand milk for 99 cents a gallon. (There’s a limit of four gallons per shopper.)
German-based Aldi competes largely on price, albeit with a smaller store format. Many Aldi stores are between 15,000 and 17,000 square feet.
