The Fernbridge Humboldt Creamery facility will stop processing fluid milk on an undetermined date; instead it will send the milk down to a Modesto facility for processing before it ends up on store shelves.
The move will result in the loss of 10 local jobs according to a statement supplied by the creamery’s spokesman.
“Unfortunately, one of our principal customers of fluid milk informed us they have entered into a supply agreement with a large national milk provider,” the email statement provided by John Segale stated. “Because we are a small, family-owned dairy, their decision directly impacts our business in the short term as the loss of fluid milk production reduces our staffing needs. As a result, we will be forced to eliminate 10 positions.”
But this change is said to not affect local dairy farmers.
