BRATTLEBORO, VT. – Commonwealth Dairy is pleased to announce that it joins a distinguished group of businesses who can proudly say they have won a Phoenix Award for excellence in Brownfield redevelopment. Commonwealth Dairy will be recognized at an awards ceremony on Thursday May 16th in Atlanta, GA where it will be cited as among the best of the best when it comes to remediating and transforming a site into a significant community asset.
Commonwealth Dairy was built in the Delta Business Park, a former auto salvage yard, in 2010. Extensive site work, solid waste removal, and engineering effort were required to transform the site into the present ultra-modern dairy making only All Natural yogurts.
According to Commonwealth Dairy’s President and CEO Thomas Moffitt: “While the selected site required significantly more time and effort than anticipated to develop, we were dedicated to the redevelopment process and appreciated the unwavering support we received from the State of Vermont, the Windham Regional Commission and the Town of Brattleboro. Without this support the project would never have materialized.”
In addition, the facility just completed a significant expansion and the Company’s Green Mountain Creamery brand of Vanilla Greek yogurt recently won first place at the World Dairy Expo Dairy Product Championship Contest.
Commonwealth Dairy will be attending the Brownfields 2013 awards ceremony at the Georgia World Congress Center on Thursday, May 16, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia. The National Brownfield’s Conference is the largest event in the nation that focuses on environmental revitalization and economic redevelopment. The Phoenix Awards are awarded by a nonprofit entity, The Phoenix Awards Institute, Inc., to recognize successful revitalization projects, honor project participants, and encourage project participants to share their knowledge/techniques so these model projects can be replicated across the country.
