Bartlett Dairy Equips Trucks With Cooltrax Fresh inTransit

Alpharetta, GA – Cooltrax, provider of real-time cold chain tracking and monitoring solutions for temperature-sensitive products and mobile assets, announced that Bartlett Dairy has equipped their delivery trucks with Fresh inTransit to ensure that milk being delivered maintain its high quality.

Bartlett Dairy originated in 1963, by Thomas Malave, Sr., who delivered milk in glass bottles to homes in the Queens borough of New York. Before long, Tommy Malave, Jr. joined his father, expanding the business beyond private residences to stores and restaurants. The one-man, one-truck operation was now a two-man, two-truck enterprise. Today, with 3 locations and a fleet of more than 100 tractor-trailers and straight trucks, Bartlett offers distribution for over 800 cold-sensitive and other non-perishable items, delivering to retail powerhouses like Starbucks and Wal-Mart in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Ohio.

Right around the time that milk delivery operations were expanding to Wal-Mart, Bartlett Dairy was finding that there was a lot of milk they simply could not monitor efficiently and deliveries were being rejected. While the milk was coming out of plant at the appropriate temperature, once it hit the delivery trucks it became more difficult to maintain the temperature.

Gary Kwan, logistics analyst for Bartlett Dairy commented, “Things were happening at the truck level that we had no way of monitoring. Reefers going down without the drivers knowing, or doors being open for too long. Milk is very sensitive to temperature fluctuations, especially when the truck is full. When one package heats up, it affects the ones next to it and becomes a domino effect.”

Brad Bartlett (no relation to company), senior director of sales for Cooltrax said, “Gary and director of IT, Josh Kanis, started looking for a more robust solution. They wanted a solution that didn’t just monitor the temperature of reefer, but the actual temperature of the milk. when we showed them the Cooltrax solution, what intrigued them most was the fact that Cooltrax is a real-time solution and not only works with reefers, but can monitor multiple things: reefer performance, product temperature, driver routes, driver times, open and door closes – and it’s all visible on a single screen.”

Added Kwan, “being a logistics guy I quickly saw that Cooltrax was so much more than the dime-a-dozen temperature monitoring solutions out there. Its intelligence offered me the opportunity to look for efficiencies in routes real-time, maximize the capacity of the trailers, and aid in driver training. All of that comes together with this product. In our fleets that have more than one temperature zone, we are able to monitor those individually. At the end of the day, what matters is the quality of the product and a happy client. We want to be true to the original vision of the company and carry on the tradition of excellence that has been part of our name since 1963.”
