ADPI Announces Jim Page Memorial Scholarship Recipients For 2016

Elmhurst, IL – The American Dairy Products Institute is pleased to announce that they have selected two recipients for the 2016 Jim Page Memorial Scholarship. Brittani Owens from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and Phuoc Ly of Aurora, Colorado will both be presented with a $2,000 scholarship at the upcoming ADPI/ABI Annual Conference on Monday, April 25th in Chicago, Illinois.

A man of "integrity, honor and passion" is just a few words used to describe Phuoc Ly, a full-time employee of Leprino Foods. After 8 years of wandering from Vietnam to Cambodia to Thailand with his parents and 4 siblings, Ly's life as a refugee ended in 1998 with his arrival into the United States and his dream to pursue a career in chemical engineering began. Ly earned his undergraduate chemistry degree from the University of Colorado and then took a job as a chemist for Leprino Foods to help his parents stabilize their financial situation.

These past five years Ly has gained practical scientific experiences, refined his management and teamwork skills and expanded his analytical expertise. He is now ready to continue his dream of becoming a chemical engineer and looks forward to becoming an engineer for Leprino Foods and work towards helping to design cheese making processes that are both economically efficient and environmentally friendly.

Owens is a full-time student pursuing a degree in Food Science at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she is on the Dean's List with a GPA of 3.607 and is also a member of the Food Science Club. For the last two summers, Owens has had the opportunity to work as a Lab Assistant at the Grande Cheese Company.

Owens is a leader who leads by example, over the last few years she has sacrificed her own comforts and time with her family to participate on mission trips to befriend and minister to central city children in Philadelphia as well as overseas in El Salvador. Upon graduation, Owens's objective is to earn her Masters Degree in Food Science along with an MBA with an emphasis in finance. Her goal is to promote the dairy industry and show the benefits of dairy through new food products and marketing.
