David F. Melbourne Jr. Promoted to Chief Executive Officer of AquaBounty; Sylvia Wulf to Continue as Non-Executive Board Chair

The Board of Directors of AquaBounty Technologies, Inc. announced that David F. Melbourne Jr. has been promoted to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer. Sylvia Wulf will continue as the non-executive Board Chair of AquaBounty’s Board of Directors.

Representative Mary Peltola (AK-AL) introduced the Fisheries Improvement and Seafood Health (FISH) Act to modernize Alaska fisheries. Currently, the Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA) is the primary federal law governing the management and conservation of both commercial and recreational fisheries, but has not been updated since 2006.

Cultivated meat was officially banned in Florida. Days before this ban took effect, UPSIDE Foods, the leading cultivated meat company, hosted a “Freedom of Food” pop-up event on The Annex rooftop in Miami. It also marked the first time cultivated meat was available for the public to taste free of charge.

Council Tackles Trade Barriers to US Tuna Fisheries at Meeting 

The Council recommended convening a group of experts, inviting federal agencies and the fishing industry, to address these regional unfair trade issues. Regarding U.S. labeling regulations, the members requested the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, NOAA, State of Hawai‘i, Territories of Guam and American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) agencies to enforce Country of Origin Labeling and other local requirements.
