Fisheries Ministry Boosts Seaweed, Tilapia, and Sea Cucumber Farming

The Government has provided SB$7 million dollars in this year’s supplementary budget in addition to SB$0.5 million in the Ministry’s development budget to progress its Seaweed farming projects.

Award criteria includes the impact a project can make on reducing the carbon footprint of the seafood industry; a demonstrated plan with a clear approach and time-bound goals; and a focus on improving seafood industry diversity (women, people of color and marginalized communities). As the program begins its second year, Acme not only welcomes new funders but also new judges for the awards from across the industry.

NOAA Fisheries is Preparing a Secretarial Amendment to End Overfishing of Red Snapper

The Secretarial Amendment and supporting analyses will evaluate a range of alternative options for setting and managing red snapper catches at levels that end overfishing (slow the rate of red snapper being removed from the population) and support rebuilding this red snapper population.
