North Dakota Will Not Enforce New Temperature Regulations

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture recently announced that it will not
enforce a new state regulation that requires processors to transport Grade “A”
milk at a temperature of 41 degrees. After discussions with IDFA, the department
realized that the regulation could conflict with interstate transportation
regulations and the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO).

Local Food Advocates And Dairymen Are Seizing Raw Opportunity

There’s long been a libertarian streak running through the raw-milk crowd. A
Christian one, too. Now it’s attracting another demographic entirely: advocates
of local food. Dairymen are seizing that opportunity. Five years ago, there were
six licensed raw-milk dairies in Washington State; today there are 28.

IDFA Remains Engaged As Emphasis On Nutrition Grows

IDFA is planning to take advantage of the opportunity to guide and inform the task force on childhood obesity by submitting comments before the March 26 deadline. The comments will reinforce the nutritional benefits of milk and dairy in children’s diets and highlight the
steps that processors are taking, such as reformulating products with less
sugar, lower calories and reduced fat, to provide a variety of product options.

Bacteria In Raw Milk Sickens Eight In Michigan

Some people swear by the benefits of raw milk, saying pasteurization destroys
important nutrients and enzymes. But several Michigan residents are dealing with the product’s less-attractive side. Eight people in Wayne, Macomb and Washtenaw counties became sick after drinking unpasteurized milk laced with bacteria, state health officials said Friday.
