After autumn’s arrival, an American holiday meal is not complete without pumpkin pie.
Sure, flaky crusts filled with apple, cherry and pecans make appearances. But it is pumpkin pie, with warming notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and powdered ginger, that heralds the season. Thanksgiving week alone accounts for more than a quarter of annual pumpkin pies sales, according to The Nielsen Co.
