There’s more to baked goods than packaged chocolate chip cookies or grocery store sheet cake — and foodie power couple Teddy and Alyssa Applebaum want the people of Camberville to know it.
The Applebaums, along with business partner Kim Beaty, are gearing up to open a new bakery supply shop called Elmendorf Baking Supplies in Cambridge or Somerville later this year. The store will carry high-quality ingredients and supplies for baked goods recipes from all different cultures, catering to hobbyists and professionals alike. It will also offer a variety of baking classes for all ages.
“This store will be inch wide and a mile deep. It goes really into baking,” Teddy said.
The Applebaums and Beaty have raised enough capital to pay for rent, overhead and inventory, but are currently running a campaign on Kickstarter, an online crowd-funding platform, to raise enough so that they can also build out a kitchen and classroom space for their new business. The Kickstarter has raised about $15,000 out of a $20,000 goal with more than a week left to go.
