Ben Ray III and his younger brother, Ryan Ray, still remember the sweet smell of fresh oranges that would waft throughout their house on Hampton Drive in Homewood.
That smell usually meant that Christmas was coming, and that their mother, Millie Ray, was preparing tens of dozens of her famous orange rolls to give to her friends and relatives.
“During the holiday season, you would smell the orange zest throughout the house all the time,” Ryan Ray says. “She was always doing something with those rolls.”
