The Sweetheart Bakery in Billings reopened this week and Franz Bakery drivers will begin delivering bread Monday to nearly 200 Montana grocery stores.
Last month, Franz, of Portland, Ore., paid nearly $31 million to buy four bakeries in Billings, Salt Lake City, Seattle and Anchorage, Alaska, plus other assets.
“We’ve been a very large purchaser of Montana wheat for a long time,” said president Marc Albers. “We’re excited to now be using that Montana wheat to make bread in Montana, for Montanans.”
The company hired 99 workers for the bakery and will be using its trucks and drivers to deliver to Montana and Wyoming stores.
