Sunshine Bakery of Alhambra, CA is voluntarily recalling CASSAVA CAKE AND MIXED NUT MOONCAKE with best by dates of 3/24/2017. The products were sold to retail stores in 2/24/2017.
The CASSAVA CAKE AND MIXED NUT MOONCAKE are being recalled because the labeling does not declare food allergens, PEANUT, COCONUT, ALMOND, AND CASHEW. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to PEANUT, COCONUT, ALMOND, and CASHEW run the risk of serious allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis, if they consume the product. No illnesses have been report to date.
Note: Some products also contain SUNFLOWER SEEDS, which some people are sensitive to.
Sunshine Bakery immediately segregated all CASSAVA CAKE, MIXED NUT MOONCAKE from inventory and is notifying consumers and customers not to consume this product if they are allergic to PEANUT, COCONUT, ALMOND, CASHEW, AND SUNFLOWER SEEDS.
The CASSAVA CAKES (cut in either red/yellow strips; or brown squares) are packaged on a white foam plate, covered in clear plastic wrap. They have a printed label on top. Best by date is printed on the label.
The MIXED NUT MOONCAKES are individually packaged in clear wrap, with a printed label on top. Best by date is printed on the label.
Sunshine Bakery wants to ensure its products are safe. Consequently, in addition to its ongoing cooperation with the California Department of Public Health, Sunshine Bakery is voluntarily recalling all CAKE, MIXED NUT MOONCAKE from all of its customers. Consumers in possession of CAKE, MIXED NUT MOONCAKE should not eat the product if they are allergic to peanuts or specific tree nuts and should return the product to the place of purchase.
