TRAVERSE CITY — A year ago, Stone House Bread settled into a new production facility.
But that wasn’t the end of the growth for the company that began in Leland in 1995 and recently was named one of the state’s 50 Companies to Watch in 2017. Stone House will be recognized at the 13th annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business event on May 4.
Tonie Spearing, managing owner at Stone House Bread, said the ingredients of her bread are simple, which makes it all-natural and non-GMO.
“Every loaf is made by hand,” Spearing said. “We don’t have anything that spits out loaves. We mix it in a mixing bowl, we measure it by hand, we bring it to the bench and form it. Then it rests in Belgian linen and then we move it and load it into the oven by hand.”
