To celebrate National Donut Day Friday, June 6th, all South Florida and Treasure Coast Winn-Dixie stores are celebrating a 76-year tradition started in Chicago by the Salvation Army in 1938 to raise funds during the Great Depression.
Winn-Dixie is putting a sweet spin on a sugary holiday by offering guests a free jumbo donut hole in the in-store bakery (limit one per guest, per store visit, while supplies last). Guests can choose from cake, powdered or cinnamon flavors.
National Donut Day is celebrated on the first Friday of June and commemorates the work of the “donut lassies,” who served fresh donuts to American soldiers (nicknamed “doughboys”) during World War I.
