A Somerville bakery will grow about fivefold in a few weeks when it moves on from its current storefront in Winter Hill. Somerville Bread Company has a new space near Union Square that will allow the bakery to expand its business and bread-making classes, per a post on SBC’s websitefrom owner Nick Robertson.
“With nearly 5x the space of our current location, SBC will be able to expand our wholesale business to area restaurants, as well additional retail offerings at area markets,” Robertson wrote.
Robertson originally sold his organic, artisan bread at local farmers markets before opening the 415 Medford St. storefront last February and adding an outpost in the Boston Public Market later that year. He soon started teaching bread-making classes at the market but will be able to expand the classes at the new SBC location near Union Square. SBC’s Medford Street storefront will be taken over by Matt Gray, who plans to open Neighborhood Produce, a grocery store that will also stock Somerville Bread Company’s loaves.
