The gluten-free trend doesn't seem to be affecting Grand Central Bakery much.
The bakery announced Monday that "booming bread sales" have prompted the Seattle company to expand its wholesale operation in Northwest Portland.
According to the announcement, the bakery's wholesale bread sales in the Portland market last year were up by almost 12 percent, or more than $466,000. To meet increased demand, Grand Central will close the café on Northwest 22nd Avenue and York Street and use the space for additional bread production.
