SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Pietz's Kuchen Kitchen & Specialties in Scotland always was meant to be a small operation, baking and selling a few kuchen here and there, owner Roger Pietz said.
But things have "snowballed" since 2008, said Pietz, who owns the business with his wife, Lori. The business has sold 100,000 kuchen, and its products are available in about 60 retail shops throughout South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.
Now, freshly baked goods and other specialty items are available at a new retail shop in the town of less than 900 people southwest of Sioux Falls.
