Panera Gets Ahead Of Menu Nutrition Requirement

Among things Shaun Von De Bur noticed Wednesday morning at Panera Bread, 3019 S.
Dirksen Parkway, was the calorie information posted on the menu board.

It was more evidence for Von De Bur, who conducted a case study of Panera Bread
in 2006, that the company seeks to set itself apart from the competition.

“I think they’re really focused on making sure we have healthy food,” said Von
De Bur, 27, who is finishing a master’s degree in business management at Robert
Morris University and also works in sales for a distribution company.

Panera Bread is the first nationwide restaurant chain to voluntarily post
calorie information on its menu boards at its company-owned outlets, positioning
itself ahead of the pack in complying with a requirement in the newly signed
health-care law.
